The Les Serafin Memorial Bird Walk at Orland Grassland
Birders should come to the Wes Serafin Memorial Bird Walk June 16 at the Orland Grassland and stay at the nearby and affordable Motel 6 Chicago Hotel at Tinley Park!
At the Wes Serafin Memorial Bird Walk. Orland Grassland Volunteers will be leading guests on bird walks throughout the site in the morning. We are hoping to limit each group to ten people for a better birding experience. Depending on turn out, we will add additional routes. Groups will be established at 7 a.m. and at 9 a.m.
Brunch will be light appetizers and finger sandwiches with sweets and treats, iced tea, coffee and water. After brunch, for those who want to experience the prairie without binoculars, we’ll be touring the site looking at wildflowers and all things wonderful at Orland Grassland.
A visitor to Orland Grassland is transported back in time, to an age when only native plants and animals lived on the land. Restoration of this natural treasure is advancing every day, with stunningly beautiful results. You are invited to experience the immemorial prairie. The grassland is a 960-acre Cook County Forest Preserves site, an Illinois Land and Water Reserve and an Important Bird Area—with a long and fascinating history.
A five-mile paved, perimeter bicycle trail entered from 167th St. just west of LaGrange Rd., meanders around the grassland. Natural foot paths in the interior, enable you to experience the grassland wilderness on foot.
